In addition to being a writer, Dave A. Gardener is also a Christian, father, university lecturer, expat, and a romantic at heart.

The name Dave A. Gardener is his pen name. It is also his personal mission statement as a writer: to sow seeds of love and hope in the hearts of his readers.

Novelist and short-story writer

As a storyteller of both adult and young adult fiction, his inspirational stories blend elements of romance, adventure, mystery/suspense, and humor. The inspirational aspect of his work aims to motivate and inspire readers as they vicariously journey with his characters toward growth and positive change in the world. In other words, in every story, his heroes and heroines are made, not born, through the process of overcoming adversity.

Poet

In addition to writing novels, he is also a published poet of words that encourage, uplift, and express his romantic heart and his faith in God. Not long ago, a very special friend of his discovered his poems that touched her heart, and she encouraged him to keep writing them. After her untimely passing, he vowed to follow her advice and continue writing words of love and hope for others.

English Prof

It may come as a surprise to some to learn that his primary occupation is a teacher. He is a lecturer of English as a foreign language in Taiwan. In his English teaching career, which spans more than two decades, he has taught students from all over the world in both the U.S. and Taiwan. His relationships with students have inspired characters for his stories.

Father

He is also a deeply devoted father of a son and a daughter and is proud of them in more ways than he can count.

Expat Adventurer

He currently lives in Taiwan: teaching, writing, learning Chinese, and enjoying the local culture. From his teaching and travel experiences, he has encountered people from many diverse cultural backgrounds and loves to express the lessons he has learned through his stories and characters. Readers will note that his main characters are often immigrants or foreigners living or traveling in a foreign country.

Christian

In his twenties, Dave had his own version of a transformative experience by becoming a Christian in his home state of Connecticut. After moving to California for graduate school, he attended churches in the same place where the Jesus Movement in the 1960s and 70s began. He loved learning about the freedom and joy the young hippies of that era experienced, many of them growing up to become pastors of churches in that region and around the world.

Dave believes that the life of a Christian is one of positivity and inner peace, whose philosophy he hopes to bring to every story and poem he writes. Very often, he sees his romantic poems as metaphors of the love of God. In addition, he has a soft spot in his heart for sharing the love of Jesus with orphan children.
